CiaO has also formed a non-profit grant partnership with VIM Health to provide subsidised rehabilitation treatment to those most in need from a prioritised medical and financial need perspective. These individuals will have been referred by the NHS but due to the delays resulting from the NHS waiting lists have seen their physical and mental health deteriorate further. For some, the NHS is no longer providing the rehabilitation most needed.
VIM Health is providing their care at cost and asking their patients to meet that cost or contribute towards it. CiaO will be making up the shortfall to meet VIM Health‘s costs. It is expected that the partnership will help over 50 people obtain vital rehabilitation care over the next 12 months.
The first person to benefit from this partnership is Macy Window. In 2020 Macy was in a horrific car accident, on arrival in hospital her survival rate was said to be just 2%. She underwent 14 hours of life-saving surgery, was placed in an induced coma for 6 weeks, and remained in critical care for 7 months. Kings College Hospital saved Macy’s life and helped her with her rehabilitation along with subsequent NHS care. However, Macy has 2 vital goals for which she needs further care, one is to transfer with a slide board and the other is to self-propel her manual wheelchair. VIM Health with support from CiaO is now providing the necessary rehabilitation to achieve those goals.
